This Notice is being sent to sponsors of group health insurance plans who took advantage of CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield’s early renewal offer in the fall of 2013.
Taking advantage of the early renewal option permitted your plan to delay the implementation of several Healthcare Reform provisions until December 1, 2014.
The effective date for those plans electing early renewal was December 1, 2013, meaning deductibles and out-of-pocket limits were to have re-set on that date. CareFirst recently made us aware that an error in their system did not re-set the deductibles and out-of-pocket limits for groups taking advantage of the early renewal.
To remedy the situation, CareFirst is resetting your plan’s deductibles and out-of-pocket limits effective December 1, 2013 and reprocessing all claims paid during the months of December 2013, January and February 2014. This will undoubtedly cause confusion among some of your employees.
Please advise your employees to compare any invoices they may receive from providers with the corresponding Explanation of Benefits statement (EOB) from CareFirst. Participants may view their complete claim history by setting up an online account at
Please know that our staff is prepared to assist you and your employees during this process. If an employee experiences difficulty in reconciling their claims, please contact your Keller Stonebraker representative for assistance.
