Sprinkler fire suppression systems have been found to reduce death rates in fires in residential and commercial buildings by 85%, according to information published by the Society of Fire Protection Engineers. These systems have become a popular feature for architects and building owners alike. Beyond this, they are now required by law in many locales, for certain types of structures or buildings utilized for specific purposes, notes the National Fire Protection Association.
But, as is true of any mechanical system, fire sprinklers, fire suppression and other fire protection systems need periodic inspections and regular preventive maintenance to operate reliably. As a reminder, it is also important to test and inspect your fire pumps.
